How I used a Survey to Uncover nearly £500k in Missed Income – and why you should do the same

Back in 2005 I did ONE thing that took my revenue from £1.8million to £7.6 million in less than 2 years.

What was that one thing? I sent out a survey.

So, about 10 days ago I sent out a quick survey using SurveyMonkey – my survey best friend for over 10 years.

The headline is that I discovered nearly £500,000 of missed potential income opportunities in that one survey!

I also learned A LOT about my list, and I had to take a bit of an ego bashing. But that’s fine. In fact, it’s more than fine because the feedback has helped me hugely in planning the next stages of my business.

If you are not using surveys in your business, you are missing a MASSIVE trick. If you’ve watched the conversion rate optimisation video training inside my Technophobes course, then you’ll already know how using surveys helped me get the conversion rate of one of my websites from less than 1% to more than 30% – that’s a 3000% increase – which accelerated the growth of that business from £1.8m in 2006 to £7.6m in 2008.

That’s how powerful surveys can be.

So, let’s take a look at some of the results I got from my most recent survey. By analysing this for you, I hope you will glean some ideas on how best to prepare your next survey to your customer and potential customer lists (you are collecting emails, aren’t you???).

Question 17: “Last question! If I have helped you in any way, could I ask you to leave a testimonial below along with your name and company name? Also, could you record a video testimonial for me? Big thanks!”

If you don’t ask, you don’t get! These are three of my favourite quotes:

“My name is Dayron and we have a small marble polishing company here in Miami, Florida It is probably the most competitive market for marble polishing industry in the states. June- August I was getting 2 calls a week from my site. Since talking to Mr Attwood and using some of his principles we have gone to have 2-5 phone calls a day. Markets which I wasn’t even on the radar now I’m on page one with more than one link. What a change imagine if I ( and I will implement all his principle)”

“The quality of Mark’s material and advice is exceptional. His own business experiences are consistently reflected throughout and this in turn conveys trust, belief and confidence to the recipients. The latter are prerequisites when endeavouring to build lasting and fruitful business relationships. David Lawlor, Partner, Bridgewater (Dublin, Limerick, Carlow and London)”

“Mark Attwood has supported our company in many ways over the past 2 years. So much so that we highly recommend him and his digital marketing company to our own partner companies and other busiiness associates. He gets real results – fast. No waffle, just good common sense and he is always at the cutting edge of his field so you know you are getting the most up to date information possible from someone you can trust. Amanda Charteris “

But it’s not all about stroking the ego, I also got this:

“I cannot afford your high prices now.”

Whoever said that: go back and watch the videos 🙂
