Inspirational People: Martin Luther King Jnr – did his dream come true?

By Mark Attwood | Inspirational People

If, for whatever reason, you’ve never watched this speech: just do it right now:

I was shocked to see on Youtube a 3%-ish disapproval rating to this video:

When I get time, I’m going to deconstruct this speech to see what has actually changed since 1963. My instinct is: not as much as we think.

In the meantime, I hope you join me in enjoying one of the best speeches in recorded history.

When you’ve done that, take a look at the man that stood on the shoulders of this murdered giant.

Then take a moment to reflect that this was in 2004.

Then take a moment to reflect on the delivery of his promises since this speech:

Inspirational People: Lemn Sissay, the Man

By Mark Attwood | Inspirational People

How do I even begin to describe this man? I’ve known him for 24 years and he’s one of the most courageous people I’ve ever met. Lemn Sissay is one of the world’s finest poets. His work is embedded in the streets of Manchester and London. Apart from being an MBE, he was also my best man and Godfather to my first born. He’s crazy, wild and brilliant. He connects with people in a way that I have never seen anyone else do.

I hope you enjoy our little chat in a noisy pub in London:

and here he is on TED at the Houses of Parliament:

Inspirational People: Interview with Emma Joyston-Bechal

By Mark Attwood | Inspirational People

Inspirational People is my series of interviews with entrepreneurs I’ve met on my travels who inspire me.

I am endlessly fascinated by the fact that some people just get on and do it with no fear of failure even if, like me, they’ve failed before.

It’s not that entrepreneurs are superior to people that have never started a business, it’s just that they have certain characteristics that interest me, and millions of others judging by the 900,000  searches per year on just one term like: “how to start a business”

What really interests me is what drives these people? I’ve a strong hunch it’s not actually the money: I know it’s never been about the money for me. But I may be wrong and I want to find out.

So, we kick off with a chat with Emma Joyston-Bechal in Marrakech, Morocco.

Emma has had a fascinating life and she’s is a creative ball of incredible energy who not only inspires me with her drive but I’m a big fan of her two most recent creations: a luxury boutique hotel called Riad Zamzam and a luxury holistic retreats business called Morocco Retreats. I’ll shut up and let Emma do the talking…
